I breed mainly kelpies. I am a registered WKC breeder who trains pups till 12 weeks, as pups are too young at 8 weeks; they have hardly left the den, and I am a firm believer that the pup should choose its owner, not the other way around. You should never buy a dog that won't come near you. The dog's first instinct is generally the most accurate, as to who the pup should be owned by. Even at 8 weeks, that instinct is already in a pup, but they are more alert and ready to leave their mother, as the time between 8 and 12 weeks is the most critical in any dog's training. It's when mom teaches the pups to be dogs, i.e., in those 4 weeks, the pups can learn lots just from their parents, and I don't sell dogs until they are 12 weeks, and I don't change that rule. They are still very much pups, but sometimes, in that time, they learn not to do business in your home . by the time pups leave, they have had all the basic training they need for new owners, ie just listening to commands. but where my pups excel is that i train all with growl technique, as this is how they communicate; its more like you learn their language, and it works. by using one single growl , if you dont want to play, just growl If they misbehave, just growl . it was best thing i have learned in all my years of breeding. I am also an ethical breeder, and I don't overbreed, i.e., I give my girls a rest of 18 months until the next litter The occasional litter gets past you but thats nature. My dogs get the best vet care needed, i.e., just today one of my dogs had to have eye surgery, even though it was only for a few stitches and cost 1000 dollars. They get the care they need. Yes, the surgery just set me back close to a thousand dollars just for a few stitches, so yes, my dogs are well looked after.
