This is one of 9 designated “dog friendly parks” in the City of Salisbury. The fenced parks have been designed to provide interesting recreational environments for both dogs and owners as well as opportunities for rest and watering.

There has been a notice on the Maxwell Rd dog park gate for some time now regarding provision of lighting for after dark use. For people who do the right thing and dogs who are friendly and sociable, this could be a very good thing, however thought needs to be given to the alternatives.
I would not be happy to have lights at the park unless they cover the whole park, as there are already a number of people who do not pick up after their dogs. This could just be another excuse not to do so, as it is too dark to see what the dogs are doing.
Consideration also needs to be given to the number of dogs who do not get on well and what effect after dark use would have on the raised excitement level of dogs.
I think that CCTV cameras should be put up as well to catch the irresponsible dog owners who allow their dogs to attack others and get away with it because there are no witnesses. I would be more interested in making this park a safe place where dogs who attack are not welcomed back.
