Lower Gannons Park

Forest Rd Peakhurst NSW 2210

Facilities
  • Water
  • Bins
  • Toilets
  • Seating

This land was once the depot at Peakhurst where they buried the nightsoil before the area was connected to the sewerage system. It is now the picturesque, 5.5 hectare public park fronting Forest Road and Isaac Street and reaching down to Lime Kiln Bay.

Dogs are not permitted on the sporting fields at the north of the park. The ‘lower’ part of Gannons Park (toward the creek) is the off-lead area. This map of the area from Hurstville City Council provides further detail.

There were lots of bipeds hanging around wearing white when we went there, so it’s possible we didn’t get the prefect experience.

It is a large area with a path around the edge with bins for the poop scooped. Because this is mainly a sporting arena for two legged creatures there weren’t a lot of trees, so shade was limited to the edge of the park. Also, this meant this that no off-lead time while balls are flying, which frankly, is just cruel to us dogs, and painful as shoulder sockets get yanked.

There were toilets that Mum could have used, but bizarrely a ‘No Dogs’. There were also benches to sit on, but after being told by a stroppy lady, ‘your dog did a sh*t. Clean it up!’ we got out of there quickly. Poor Cara, we’d left her in peace, and the lady gave her attitude.

Overall, I’d say we’d give it a rating of ** out of 5

    Stay furry!

        Thanks peter,

I’ve updated the description and the map marker to better show the off-lead area.

You have described Upper Ganon’s Park. This is the sporting fields for soccer and cricket and not for Dogs. Lower Ganons Park is located at the south end of the sporting fields. You need to walk down the dirt road and you will find 3 separate off leash areas separated by trees. The middle area has toilets and usually water containers for the dogs. My Boarder Collie loves it!

Lower Gannons Park is a great place to visit for dog lovers, there’s approximately 27ha of land for them to roam in and most dogs are well behaved. The park is also a great way for humans to relax, with no cars allowed in the park and only some houses visible on either side. Continuing on from Lower Gannons Park is a fire trail which takes you along the Lugarno side of Lime Kiln Bay, the trail has sections which are rainforest like with tall trees and thick vegetation. Park at Boatwright Avenue or alongside Upper Gannons Park at Pindari Rd Peakhurst and walk down.
