Been here many times. Most dogs on the beach are off the leash.

while both sharky’s and Little Austinmer as well as the Sydney/northern end of Thirroul beach are great for taking dogs they are only allowed there as result of the rangers and the surf lifesavers turning a blind eye. I can assure you if discovered on the beach with a dog of the lead you will be removed. Wollongong council has no lead free beaches.

The Wollongong Council website has Little Austinmer beach listed as off leash. There are other beaches off leash too, with some beaches off leash some hours during the day. So enjoy Little Austy with your pooch worry free!

There are also plenty of other beaches that are off leash during specified times (usually before 9am and after 4/6pm
